05 October 2018 The Education Sector Committee (ESC) of the South African National Commission (SANATCOM) for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) supports the annual celebration of World Teachers` Day on 05 October 2018 and its theme, namely: The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher.

On 4 September 2018, SAQA hosted the 5
th Ben Parker Memorial Lecture on 'The Economy, Society and Education and Training for a Sustainable Future in South Africa'.
The purpose of the Ben Parker Memorial lectures is to commemorate and build on Ben Parker’s activism, his deep and progressive theoretical and practical understandings, and his work on the development of education and training across the range of communities in South Africa.
The Lecture was presented by Professor Pundy Pillay who is a Professor of Economics and Public Finance, and Research Director of the School of Governance at Wits University.

The City of Tshwane's claim that it used SAQA to verify the qualifications of its senior managers before appointing them is false. This was claimed in a media statement by the City in their media statement on 28 June 2018 and in the Sowetan Newspaper
22 August 2018 The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) notes with concern recent statements made by the City of Tshwane indicating that they had verified the qualifications of their senior managers with SAQA before making their appointments.
