Dr Mafu Rakometsi
Dr Mafu Rakometsi is the Chief Executive Officer of Umalusi - Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training, and was appointed a member of the SAQA Board by virtue of his office. He started his career as a teacher at Rearabetswe Secondary School at Odendaalsrus in 1983. After his career as a teacher, he was promoted to Tshiya College of Education as a lecturer, senior lecturer and Head of Department for Professional Studies and Student Affairs, whilst teaching History part-time at the QwaQwa branch of the University of the North in Phuthaditjhaba (1987 to 1992).
He was promoted to Subject Advisor for History in the Orange Free State Region of the then-Department of Education and Training, based at the Welkom District Office (1993 to 1995). He served as Chief Education Specialist for Examinations and Assessment for the North West Department of Education (1996 to 1998). In 1999, he was appointed Director: Education Institute at the Free State Department of Education, after which he was appointed Chief Director: Education Development and Professional Services at the Free State Department of Education in 2001.
In 2005, he was appointed Deputy Director-General for Curriculum Management and Development at the Free State Department of Education, and in the same year, appointed Superintendent-General (Head of Department) for the Free State Department of Education. Dr Rakometsi obtained his Doctor of Philosophy at the University of the Free State in 2009.
