SAQA Bulletin: Volume 12 Number 3: December 2012


This volume of the Bulletin contains papers engaging Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in South Africa at a time the country attempts to take RPL to the next level.  The first paper is referred to as a guiding document incorporating knowledge from RPL representatives. It includes factors such as the understanding of RPL to effective delivery models based on research and successful practice over the years of implementation. The second paper is on international models for RPL and recommendations based on analysing their viability in South Africa.

 The third paper is an overview of South African legislation impacting RPL. The fourth paper looks into the evolution of the French validation of learning outcomes system and includes recommendations for South Africa to consider. The last two papers are a report on the involvement of Sector Education and Training Authorities in RPL activities, and an analysis of RPL records in the National Learners’ Records Database, respectively.
